I used a small continuous LED light to take this portrait of one of my favorite people on the planet, Annie Brown! She was chosen from a competitive group of young artists as the Young Artist if the Year to play with the Idaho Falls Symphony. I was lucky enough to take her portrait for the event/program and be in attendance while she wowed the audience with a once-in-a-lifetime-performance that roused us all to a standing ovation. Congratulations, Annie, and thank you for letting me be part of it!
Wow! This’d is a beautiful picture. Only one light?
This image is so well lit and I love the reflection on the piano.
Thanks, AJ! Yes, I only used one main light from the left side. The light bounced off the blinds and filled in the shadows on the right, so it made a nice fill light effect. Of course the backlight coming in from the blinds worked well for a natural background fill light. I love it when I can carry just one little portable LED and get a studio lighting effect.
It is a beautiful Portrait! Those angles on the piano can be difficult to work around, so as usual, amazing work!
Thanks, Sarah! It is great to hear from you. I hope things are going well. Are you shooting these days?
I want to know more about Miss Brown’s learning techniques. Someone as young as that and doing so well, either she is a prodigy or she has had some piano teachers that have taught her techniques of learning far and above the norm. I am a piano teacher and am using some newer techniques that advance students much faster than the norm. see pianopractice.org
Can you put me in touch with her or her parents? I am very interested in learning more about her skills. Thanks for sharing this info. This is a very nice photo!!!
