James’ Story: People – Culture – Landscape
ENLIGHTEN: EUROPE – Day 5 Discovery
Het Loo Palace – Apeldoorn, Netherlands
In my quest to “Enlighten” myself and others about the People – Culture – Landscape of Europe, I have been observing people in their environment, rather than just snapping the historical sites and scenes. My purpose on this 40-day journey is to seek out and tell the stories of everyday people and show their culture and history.
While visiting the Palace in the Netherlands, I noticed James pull this Volvo up in front and use his iPad to photograph it in front of the Royal Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. When I showed interest in his story, James told me he had been working for a long time to get this Volvo in shape, because this same model was the first car of Queen Beatrix’s who lived in this palace in 1965.
I asked if I could photograph his car too. He consented, with a smile, and asked if he could photograph me photographing his car. Then several men started circling to examine the details and ask questions. I was lucky to get a few shots without lots of folks in the scene.
