San Juan Mission - San Antonio, Texas - Caryn Esplin
I am not sure what you call sweet little statue heads carved into the sides of old buildings…but I just can’t bring myself to call these gargoyles. They seem much to angelic. Here are just a few examples of the many amazing things you will find at the San Juan Mission in San Antonio, Texas.

Technically, I think these are not gargoyles, because I don’t see any water spouts for the run off. I think that is the functional purpose of the gargoyles, the decorative piece is the scary faces and creatures. So these little angel heads seem to be pure decoration.
Thanks for clearing that up. I am glad to learn more about gargoyles, and it is nice not to think of these beautiful faces in that same category. Thanks for the comment!
