Caryn Esplin - HDR Light Painting - Three Exposures

With this shot, I merged three different exposures of the same scene, just after sunrise. This time though, I did not use the traditional bracketed three exposures +2, 0 and -2.  What makes it unique is the light I added to each shot with my spotlight to highlight the pumps and building. I even tried one with a different white balance to bring in some blues. I merged all three in Photomatix and came up with this unusual HDR light-painting blend. Of course, Photoshop came to my rescue to remove the ropes, telephone poles, wires and ugly signs. I think I will call this HDR Light Painting. I think it has a lot of potential and I can’t wait to try some more. A student of mine tried this in total darkness and revealed different portions of a dark object with flashlights. Then he merged them all into one and Photomatix picked up the various light in each scene. Thanks, Shawn for this inspiring idea to combine light painting and HDR blends! I just love teaching Digital Imaging. I learn from my students every day.
